Welcome to the Putonti Lab site!
Research in Dr. Catherine Putonti's laboratory includes computational and molecular techniques for investigating the multitude of microbial species critical for sustaining life on Earth.
At the bench, researchers are hard at work identifying new phages in a myriad of environmental niches, from the freshwaters of Lake Michigan outside our front door to the complex microbial communities found within the female bladder.
Computational challenges persist for those studying viruses that infect bacteria - phage. Our computational team is dedicated to working on design and development of tools to facilitate analysis of novel viral sequences as well as viral metagenomic data sets.
